Beginning day 2...

  • Emerging questions from the JISC programme:
    Assumptions about learners
    Emerging evidence base
What are students/users saying about the projects
What do we know about the dynamic of social networking spaces?
Convenient and inconvenient truths about Web 2.o and how do we address them?

This will be a bit of a gripe - so don't read if you are feeling positive and enabling.

These are always the emerging questions from the JISC programme. If they are so sure of the questions, what are they doing to facilitate the answers? There are a lot of institutions (ourselves included) who are working hard to explore and at least present partial responses to these questions, but these are treated as invisible. What are the JISC programme leaders planning to do to capture all this local activity and provide a meta-sectoral analysis that moves beyond "case study" collections?

Well I hope someone from JISC reads this. I did get the sense that the projects they fund a like pebbles thrown in a pond that generate very few ripples. I'm hoping we can get some projects to SHU (1 ripple each) but then what else will they do? Somehow prtojects need to find better ways of mnaking greater impacts and this may require that other institutions are supported in generating a second set of ripples. Obviously this would require a substantial shift in funding towards dissemination activity. I would also like to see people excluded from bidding where they have a track record of successful bids so that other orgs can develop initiatives - perhaps this requires that expertise to be channeled into some kind of mentor role. Anyway, one way or another, there needs to be improvement.

I more or less copied and pasted your comment into the conference evaluation
